    What are racing games? a racing game is a video game genre which involves competing in races. The object of the game is to be the first player to reach the finish line successfully. they may be based on anything from real-world racing leagues to entirely fantastical, futuristic settings, and feature any type of vehicle from them being classic race cars to a made up unique looking vehicle.           F-Zero (played on snes) vs Ridge racer (played on ps classic) Similarities: both have ranking systems  tells you what lap your on having to balance and control speed to avoid crashing mini map tells you what speed your going  time for each lap different cars upbeat music Differences:  big difference in graphics, F-Zero uses sprites (2D) where as ridge racers surrounding are more realistic and has a lot of 3D buildings.   Game design   Setting:  A sci-fi/ space setting   Modern looking/futuristic door that is locked until all enemies are defeated and the key is found.   Objective:  Kill all aliens using your choice of weapon, gain powerups as you go along  e.g  speed boosts ? ,  regenerate health faster?, shield that lasts a certain amount of time?. The difficulty of the aliens will progressively get harder or maybe there  will be just be  a lot more as you keep  playing?.     Mechanics:   Dodging   Death   Scores   Collectables     A certain amount of lives  before  you start the level all over  again ?   Verbs:   Running    Jumping   Dodging   Shooting   Crouching to dodge bullets?   Sprinting
